rock n (still) rolling

a couple of things in mind, from day-to-day (wait, i kinda suffer from dory's 3 seconds memory that only allow me to recall things up to 3 days backward at this hours, nevermind, at least it's a version better than dory's seconds counting) stuffs to idol, time to 'organise' my thoughts a bit (read: vent my anger) .

joined the rpc's service on sunday @ 10 am for their series on 'decoding the da vince code', still two more series to go. they're giving the cd out of charge as talks are recoded, for those interested, but with notice given. as i talked to a couple of ipc'ers before and after the service, most are aware of the popularity of the book itself (how interesting! the twisted always seems to turn out to be more popular than truth itself! and in fact, it's a best-seller for almost a year in australian public!). i'm personally aware that it's out there as a book, sold even at christian's bookstore, yet nothing much was known to me that it's so misleading until yesterday (since i never read it previously). a person did buy the book, out of curiosity, and i'm certain that she is aware of it being misleading, and a couple are aware of the interesting yet crooked facts and false claims made by the book. essentially, it's an insult toward the Scripture as whole, and most importantly toward the God-person Jesus Himself (i.e pointing to His death and resurrection), which is at the heart of christianity. 2 claims were discussed yesterday, that the Bible is a 4th century creation of constantine and Jesus wasn't really divine but was made so by the church.

still about the service, it's so much comforting to see sue as she was telling the kids to believe in Bible's truth (thus read it) than read harry potter using the cereals illustration (?!?) (choosing between weeties and milo, hmn, milo is so much appealing off course, even to me, yet uncle tobys' weeties proves a better choice for your health =) at the beginning of the service, where the kids were told to sit at the floor close to the stage as she was teaching them.

fish bbq at the tukiady's siblings afterward, a new set of people for me joining hatta's bs group, [to be continued.. whether published or not], the story is unfinished, not the bbq, but the people, not the funs, but the dealing, not what's seen as outcomes or quick fixes, but a process, another chapter of life, i guess (a part of it, at least).

trying to do better at my reading skill, it's been sucked, truly! didn't work out, feeling sleepy after a while of reading when commuting, concentration's not at peak during cooling down period for system's shutdown over the bed at home. feel like reading, yet sleeping is so much a trend in my agenda nowadays. a couple of books in particular that am interested in finishing, i hope the passion carries on. am just amazed at the reading speeds of two people that i know (yeah, they are bookworms, who can beat! and who wants to be ugly worm anyway! =).

works have been going quite normal, enjoying and learning things. yet, there's no such thing as pressure-free zone in work (or life, unless perhaps you r the super-talented alicia keys who feels no pressure at all), but as they come along the way, taking them on board by bits is perhaps the antidote to prevent no growing at all as a person, at least that's how i'd like to see it through my glasses. a right dosis is no harm at all, God's grace is sufficient, and i'm thankful that it is.

chanel ended her idol journey just tonite (hiks), performance-wise, she has always been doing a good job as an attention grabber, witty, people person, take-it-light-and-enjoy-most type of personality. no cynical, but how deceiving appearance can be sometimes, especially when judgements are made by sinful human beings that're lacking in true wisdom, full of potentiality to show partiality toward some, leaving behind values that matter more than just outward camouflage that are pleasing toward eyes.

hang on, didn't i say that i'd like to 'organise' my thoughts? ah, this dory's syndrome is hardly diagnosed properly for a cure.. (this time for better reasons).

p.s. did i create a heart attack toward people as they read thru, thinking that they might be the targets? =)

Impulsiveness or Discipleship?

Taken from Oswald Chambers' My Utmost For His Highest.

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith . . . — Jude 20

There was nothing of the nature of impulsive or thoughtless action about our Lord, but only a calm strength that never got into a panic. Most of us develop our Christianity along the lines of our own nature, not along the lines of God’s nature. Impulsiveness is a trait of the natural life, and our Lord always ignores it, because it hinders the development of the life of a disciple. Watch how the Spirit of God gives a sense of restraint to impulsiveness, suddenly bringing us a feeling of self-conscious foolishness, which makes us instantly want to vindicate ourselves. Impulsiveness is all right in a child, but is disastrous in a man or woman—an impulsive adult is always a spoiled person. Impulsiveness needs to be trained into intuition through discipline.
Discipleship is built entirely on the supernatural grace of God. Walking on water is easy to someone with impulsive boldness, but walking on dry land as a disciple of Jesus Christ is something altogether different. Peter walked on the water to go to Jesus, but he "followed Him at a distance" on dry land ( Mark 14:54 ). We do not need the grace of God to withstand crises—human nature and pride are sufficient for us to face the stress and strain magnificently. But it does require the supernatural grace of God to live twenty-four hours of every day as a saint, going through drudgery, and living an ordinary, unnoticed, and ignored existence as a disciple of Jesus. It is ingrained in us that we have to do exceptional things for God—but we do not. We have to be exceptional in the ordinary things of life, and holy on the ordinary streets

The Ministry of the Unnoticed

Taken from Oswald Chambers' My Utmost For His Highest.

Blessed are the poor in spirit . . . — Matthew 5:3

The New Testament notices things that do not seem worthy of notice by our standards. "Blessed are the poor in spirit . . . ." This literally means, "Blessed are the paupers." Paupers are remarkably commonplace! The preaching of today tends to point out a person’s strength of will or the beauty of his character—things that are easily noticed. The statement we so often hear, "Make a decision for Jesus Christ," places the emphasis on something our Lord never trusted. He never asks us to decide for Him, but to yield to Him—something very different. At the foundation of Jesus Christ’s kingdom is the genuine loveliness of those who are commonplace. I am truly blessed in my poverty. If I have no strength of will and a nature without worth or excellence, then Jesus says to me, "Blessed are you, because it is through your poverty that you can enter My kingdom." I cannot enter His kingdom by virtue of my goodness—I can only enter it as an absolute pauper.

The true character of the loveliness that speaks for God is always unnoticed by the one possessing that quality. Conscious influence is prideful and unchristian. If I wonder if I am being of any use to God, I instantly lose the beauty and the freshness of the touch of the Lord. "He who believes in Me . . . out of his heart will flow rivers of living water" ( John 7:38 ). And if I examine the outflow, I lose the touch of the Lord.

Who are the people who have influenced us most? Certainly not the ones who thought they did, but those who did not have even the slightest idea that they were influencing us. In the Christian life, godly influence is never conscious of itself. If we are conscious of our influence, it ceases to have the genuine loveliness which is characteristic of the touch of Jesus. We always know when Jesus is at work because He produces in the commonplace something that is inspiring.

a blessing of one kind in simple act of caring

can sometimes still feel overwhelmed for the fact that om joe is serving at IPC, not to say that serving among the Indo people is actually his passion. personally think that these four words make a lot of sense to associate him with: dedication, humility, knowledgable and approachable. can remember well when he once gave us a piece of simple advice which i think has a lot more meanings than just the simplicity of the advice itself, one like, don't shine, don't whinge, don't recline.

so last night even, om and aunty mavis were serving us dinner along the meeting that we had at his place, a service of generosity, while also accommodating us in preparing for pemuda's next year program kerja. being thankful for the fact that an example has been set, all credit is due to Christ, thru whom we can come to God who has prepared us for every good deed. may this be a blessing for us at IPC that thru your love and deeds, the church can be built up. things practise thru such simple unspoilt and undemanding actions, yet out of love.
